Oh, Plateau!

So, this is a graph of my weight over the past 2 months. Is this completely the most messed up "weight loss" chart you have ever seen or what?! I am trying extremely hard not to focus on the scale, and instead focus on how great my body feels, my clothes fit, and my energy level is, but...but...yeah. There it is.

But the best part is that I have not relented. I have not thrown in the towel. I have not sabotaged myself in quiet rebellion. I am still maintaining and in some cases increasing my activity level, and have been at it full-force since August. August, people.

My exercise and diabetes still needs some tweaking, though. So Steve ordered this book for me today:

I am excited to read it, and also excited that I am comfortable referring to myself as a "diabetic athlete." Not too long ago, I was staring down the deep, dark abyss of diabetes and exercise, and wondering where to even start. And now I am tweaking it with the use of a seemingly technical book on the subject. Unreal.

I also had an epiphany, of sorts, on the elliptical the other day. As I may have mentioned, my 20-year diabetes anniversary date is fast approaching, and originally I was all geared up to throw an "F-you Diabetes!" party, complete with chocolate fountains, cupcakes with frosting, etc. In my mind, the idea was to stick my tongue out at my diabetes for the day, but to also make the point that diabetes does not have to stop me from doing anything, including eating cake. However, as the date approaches, I am feeling much more empowered, emotional, and proud of all I have accomplished as a diabetic, because of my diabetes, as well as despite it. I am so incredibly grateful for the support I have and have had over these past 20 years, and would much rather celebrate with that support than bite my thumb at the disease itself. It gives my diabetes too much power. So, details to come, but there will be a party, and it will be a celebration of this one sweet life I have.

To end on a positive note, I had Ellie take this picture the other day. I have been so bad about keeping up with my progress via pictures, but I think this is a good one. Check out those clavicles!
